Description
Less than a year after the Convention on the Rights of the Child was established by the UN General Assembly in 1989, Pakistan became the sixth nation in the world to sign and ratify it. Nonetheless, there are still significant obstacles for Pakistani children and teenagers.
In order to assist children realise their rights under the Convention on the Rights of Children, UNICEF supports the Government of Pakistan in accelerating progress for children and working towards the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Strong collaborations with provincial authorities, educators and medical experts, frontline workers and social mobilizers, families and communities, and of course the kids and teenagers themselves will be used to achieve this, among other things.
In particular, UNICEF will work so that:
- Every child survives and thrives — being in good health, immunised, protected from polio and accessing nutritious food.
- Every child learns.
- Every child is protected from violence and exploitation and registered at birth.
- Every child lives in a safe and clean environment, with access to safe drinking water and adequate sanitation.
