The Central Board of Revenue Act, 1924 was passed on April 1st, 1924, officially founding the Central Board of Revenue (CBR). Under the Ministry of Finance, a full-fledged Revenue Division was established in 1944. This system persisted after the country attained independence until the Administrative Reorganisation Committee suggested that FBR become an affiliated department of the Ministry of Finance on August 31, 1960. Additional adjustments to streamline the organisation and its operations were undertaken in 1974. As a result, the Secretary of Finance was freed of his obligations as the ex-officio Chairman of the FBR and the position of Chairman FBR was formed with the rank of additional secretary.
